The Devil Wears JIBRI - Fall Preview

Totally vamped out and bad ass (pardon my french),  JIBRI has done her classic silhouettes in a way that are sleek and brings back black in an seriously sophisticated and a "take no prisoners" kind of way.  I feel sorry for anyone who has a boss lady that wears these looks to work.  She won't be taking any of your excuses, incompetence, and you won't be boring her with any of your questions.   This fall the devil will be wearing JIBRI.

Kim Kardashian Style

So I saw this Gucci dress on Kim Kardashian and I thought it was gorgeous and definitely something I would wear.  When I saw this dress at Eloquii, it definitely reminded me of the Gucci dress and with a few minor alterations I could work it into a similar look for plus size. I know yall think I am spending a bundle in alterations...and I was, until I picked up a my own sewing machine (I spent all of $40 at the local big lots).  I use it to do very minor alterations, such as sewing up slips, hems, waist reduction, and clipping my pencil skirts.  I still go to my tailor for big projects. For this project, all I did was rip the thread out of the seams in the front of the dress and stitch the raw material.  I promise it looks harder than it was.  Even if you don't want to do this look, as is, this dress is a great similar look for less.

I actually did this project myself in all of an hour before I had to attend a party for The Weekender Dallas.  Tonight's event kicked off a girls shopping weekend to be hosted at the W. Check here for details.  Fabulous Dallas designers, like Edgar Gomez (you remember him from a previous post), will be there with their chicest frocks for purchase.  Check some of the photos from tonight's event.

Stylist

I was so supposed to post this earlier, time got the better of me.  Some of you already saw this on From the Rez to the City's blog, but I wanted to post as well.  Kiah, or to us bloggers, Rez, let me style her.  Some of you may or may not know, but I am stylist.  I work mainly with the everyday plus size woman.  I've been doing most of my styling via Skype sessions.  Since I left Atlanta, I lost a lot of my "in person" clientele.  Anyways, I had this dress that I immediately thought of her when I saw it.   It was such a beautiful dress and I would have loved to have kept it, but sometimes the dress choose the owner and not the other way around...LOL.  Kiah, who definitely has her own fabulous style, let me do what I love to do on her.  She looks gorgeous, if I do say so myself.

Fancy Fedora

I've been wanting to pick up a fedora for a while now and then I saw Rez' London Fog fedora and said, "that's it I'm going to finally buy one."  I picked up two.  I got a London Fog via Ebay and this one I'm wearing is from Urban Outfitters.  I am usually a little leery of hat just because my head is on the big side.  I did figure out if you buy men's hats the width is more generous.  Anyways, this was my mall getup for a hair appointment, a quick look around, and partaking in my favorite grilled avocado salad (via Snappy Salads).  I just went in for a haircut.  I'm kind of between hair styles right now, so I just my hair trimmed and a little more evened out.  I figure I will decide on some new definitive style right before I go to New York Fashion Week.   Oh, did I mention I was and this is my first one? Obviously, I am pumped.  Even though NYC kicked my butt last time, I am going back.  I am a glutton for punishment.  I am, however, conditioning myself for the walking (along with just trying to get into better shape) with walking daily.  Pray for me, my feet (and the rest of me, for that matter) will need it.

Vince Camuto Review

So I went to the Nordstrom Sale and of course I didn't get anything at sale price...typical me.  This Vince Camuto pencil skirt is made of a nice fabric and has a great length.  I've seen his stuff around a lot lately and I finally gave something a try.  This will probably be a staple piece for me this Fall/Winter.  I do love the balconette bras at Lane Bryant, so I thought it would be fun to do a little peek-a-boo.  I'm feeling a little Lisa Raye from Single Ladies in this outfit, not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I do like her pencil skirt based ensembles.  Please note:  Despite this positive single ladies reference, I am still mad that Stacey Dash & stylist Anthony Williams (project runway) are no longer on the show and when they left all the style left with them.

Reddy

As you guys can see, I am finding some interesting backgrounds in Dallas.  The weird lighting is due to the picture being taken at night (hence my bra strap snuck out on me).  I decide to red this navy and white striped dress out.  I'm wearing a Ruby Woo red lipstick from MAC.  I love the color and the matte look, but I swear the lipstick is a crayon, it's so hard to put on and is very drying.  Oh and I promise this is the last navy dress I'm buying this summer...maybe.

Pink Sunday

I've had this dress in my closet over 5 years.  It was from the Isaac Mizrahi Collection for Target.  I bought it when his line was being discontinued for $13.  The reason I haven't worn it was because it was too short...and over the years had gotten too small...LOL.  I thought it might be fun to do some color blocking with it.  I pranced right on over to Joann's fabric store and picked out a color to block the dress with, this also adds the length that I needed.  I bought a similar fabric and color to increase the bust portion as well.  The tailor that I've been using since I got here is Art Custom Tailor (E. Mockingbird & 75).  I love little projects.  If you looking for a similar dress check QVC, Isaac Mizrahi has a similar looking collection there.

Big ups to From the Rez to the City for taking my photos.  She did an awesome job!

I'm a Cool Kid

Yall know I love my leopard, so when I game across this leopard peplum top (I tucked in the peplum) I knew I had to have! I picked up the top from Fushia Love, a trendy little online boutique where nothing is over $50.  Anyways, when I saw a similar outfit on the pinterest board, I knew I had to recreate it for plus.  I don't know who the blogger is, but she is adorable.  The mix prints, metallics, and neon made me swoon.  For you non-southerners that when a southern gal pretends she is going to faint because we are overwhelmed by literally whatever.  Did I mention this skirt has snakeskin print?  So much fun! This outfit makes me feel so much cooler than I actually am...LOL

Be sure to check out online plus size boutique, Fushia Love here.

Army Green Girl: Ashley Stewart Remixed

As I've been cleaning out of my closet and getting rid of things I came across this dress from Ashley Stewart.  This is definitely a keeper.  Army green is one of those difficult colors to find and wear.  I bought this dress originally to go with some cowboy boots.  I still haven't found my perfect pair of cowboy boots as of yet.  This dress is 5 years old...at least.  I thought it was a great blast from the past.  On a side note - You rarely see me wear a stretchy belt.  The belt added onto this dress is stretchy.  The reason being is that they bunch up too easily and can often look sloppy on me.  I like a belt that stays put...no bunching, no twisting, and brings structure.  Anyways, apparently army green is on trend for fall.   I'm eager to see what people come up with.

Outfit Logistics:  Dress - Ashley Stewart (at least 5 yrs old), Belt - (so old I don't remember), Shoes - Nordstrom Rack, Clutch - Jason Wu for Target, Lipstick - MAC Angel

Celebrity Style Capture: Nikki Minaj "Beez in the Trap"

This is not my usual style, but you know I like a personal challenge, especially when it comes to plus size.  People love to say we can't wear this or that.  So when I saw the "Beez in the Trap" video, I was first shocked at the outfit.  Then I said to myself, "I wonder if I could pull this off."  I then wondered if I could take the edge off of it, but how do you take the edge of of spandex...all spandex.  I actually wore it with the blazer.  I don't think Dallas is ready for just this by itself..LOL.  I will say that it is quite liberating to actually wear something and like the way it looks on you although society would say that you shouldn't.  Anyways, the back of this is as low with the cutouts as the Nikki Minaj one, but I have on the following girdles:  Plus Size Slimplicity Open-Bust Mid-Thigh Bodysuit & the Plus Size Undie-tectable High-Waisted Panty at the same dang time! Both are black and come up to my bra strap and are barely detectable.  Now if you decide to walk out of the house in this (without any kind of jacket) I am not responsible for any relationship issues, cat calls, or anything else.  This is NOT for the faint of heart.  What do you think? Did I got too far? Well, never mind, I know went too far.

And the Rocket's Red Glare...

I couldn't let the July 4th go back without a little patriotic inspiration.  Surprisingly, this is the first time I've worn linen all summer.  I love a great linen ensemble!  Oh and I love these shoes!!! I would probably marry them if I wasn't married already.  They are a Kate Spade special.  And yes they are see-through mesh! Hello Lover! Anyway, I got to run, but  I wish you a Happy 4th of July and all the great cookout food you can eat.

Grocery Store Chic

So I actually do not wear a ball gown to the grocery store.  Lately, I've been getting the question of do I "dress up" to go to the grocery store?  Exception: If I am going after the gym I am in gym clothes.  Today, I had to run into Target for some groceries and garment racks.  (My closet is a monster right now and I have to get it under control).  This is what I wore.  Did it take a little thought?  Yes.  Did it take me more than 10 minutes to put together? No.  I made a personal decision to make an effort in my appearance every time I hit the door for a few reasons.  One, you never know who you are going to meet.  It could be a potential job, a client, or an ex-boyfriend (because you have to make them feel like they lost the best thing they ever had, just sayin).  It's like your mom's clean underwear/ambulance theory.  Anything could happen, so why not be prepared.  Two, I hate feeling sloppy I swear it ruins my entire day.  I am a strong component for the look good/feel good theory.  Finally, people are willing to be nicer to you when it comes to customer service.  Sad, but true.  When people connect with you, because they like something you have on they are so much more pleasant.  Yesterday, my hunny bunny and I got a huge discount on our lunch just because the cashier liked my dress.  It is especially handy when dealing with retail, doing returns, and etc.

Speaking of my monster of a closet,  I am having a sale on my online shop.  Dresses $30, Bottoms/Skirts $20, and Tops $10.  I have bought entirely too much stuff, my closet is over flowing.  As pieces sell, I will be adding more.  You can stop by here. Oh and check out the Clements Ribeiro Collection at Evans, it's on super sale and I loved the pieces that I got.

Outfit Logistics:  Top:  Clements Ribeiro for Evans $35, Denim: Ashley Stewart $18, Shoes - ShoeDazzle $40, Clutch - H&M $24, Lip Color - MAC Sail La Vie $14, Sunglasses - GW Boutique (or Goodwill gifted from a co-worker)
